The Hub of Hovinbyen

Oslo is Europe's fastest growing capital and the area north of the main city centre, Hovinbyen, is the largest area of advancement for the coming 15 to 20 years. The Planning and Building Authorities estimates the potential of Hovinbyen as representing 30 - 40,000 new dwellings and a 2.5 million square metre area for trade and industry, which is almost as big as the inner city within Ring 2.

In this area Økern Centre will become the hub of the expansive development of Hovinbyen; it will help to form and change Oslo in accordance with the growth strategies of Oslo Municipality: ”Oslo towards 2030: Smart, safe and green.”

The infrastructure of Økern makes it one of Oslo's most sizeable hubs, easily accessible by car, subway and bus. In the close vicinity of the subway station the urban market place will be developed with attractive restaurants and cafes.

Økern is the most populous part of Oslo, which again is one of Europe's fastest growing cities. Within a range of one km from Økern Centre more than 10,000 new dwellings are planned in the near future.  Oslo is expecting a population growth of 17 % by 2025 and the primary area of Økern is calculated to increase in population by 25 % between now and 2025.
